Gone Girl
***This is another one of those posts where I do talk about spoilers so read with caution*** There's just a lot I want to talk about and I can't do it without talking about what happens in the movie!

Just like Interstellar I had no intention to see Gone Girl. The trailer didn't make it seem very intriguing so I pretty much forgot about the movie. I was also told about the fact that Amy is alive and is a nut case and only disappears to frame her husband. But what I didn't know was that there was A WHOLE LOT MORE than just that.
I was reluctant to watch this movie but my whole family was watching it so I figured I'd just watch it too. And I'm go glad that I stayed. This movie just came out on DVD/BluRay and Shawn and I bought it immediately. This is hands down one of my top five movies of the year. I think it is actually my third favorite following Whiplash and Birdman. If you haven't seen this movie yet just do yourself a favor and go buy it because it's fantastic.
Since I knew the spoiler about what was really going on with Amy I wasn't fully paying attention to the movie at first. And then without even realizing it I was totally sucked into the movie. So much happens that you don't know what to believe, even if you already know a huge plot spoiler.
Here I was thinking Gone Girl was going to be a stupid thriller movie and it turned out to be an amazing, sitting on the edge of your seat type of movie. After seeing the movie and all of the details that add up to all the crazy outcomes I might actually have to read the book!
Sometimes...actually most of the time I just don't understand the Academy and the people/voters in it. Gone Girl only received one nomination. One. And it's for Rosamund Pike, who was fantastic but I 'll get to that in a little bit. I haven't even read the book but I feel like it should have at least been nominated for Adapted Screenplay. I would replace Inherent Vice with Gone Girl in that category in a heartbeat, I was not a fan of Inherent Vice.
The day the Oscar nominations were released I also read a lot of posts about how it should have been nominated for the score. When I read about that it made me want to watch the movie again to see what everyone was talking about. So that night Shawn and I watched it with his mom and her boyfriend and WOW. The first time I watched Gone Girl I didn't really pay attention to the score but watching it again and keeping in mind that the score was something a lot of people were upset about just made the movie so much better! It's always so interesting how much the score influences the movie.
I'll be honest, I've never really been very knowledgeable in the movie score/soundtrack categories for the Oscars. But I am familiar with all the big names (Alexandre Desplat, Hans Zimmer, etc.). Gone Girl was done by Trent Reznor, who won for The Social Network. After watching Gone Girl again and paying attention to the score I definitely think it was snubbed this year.
Now, back to Rosamund Pine, the best part of the movie in my opinion. She is nominated for Best Actress and I REALLY wish this year wasn't such a strong category so that she stood a chance!! I'll talk more about this next Saturday (Feb 21st) in my Oscars Picks post but I have a very strong feeling that Julianne Moore is going to win the Oscar for Best Actress. But I am still going to cross my fingers and pray that she wins because she absolutely deserves it. She is just incredible in Gone Girl. Everyone knows her as Jane from Pride and Prejudice but now Gone Girl is definitely going to be the movie she is known for. Her performance is serious just amazing. She is beautiful and charismatic but also totally just mind blowing insane. I really wish that she would win the Oscar for Best Actress but I just don't know if it is going to happen.
If you haven't seen Gone Girl yet you NEED to. Go to Redbox tonight and rent it because its just a great movie. Wait, on second thought maybe wait until Sunday. This movie isn't the type of movie you should watch before Valentine's Day. Shawn was questioning who he was married to for the following 48 hours after watching Gone Girl. So to avoid ruining Valentine's Day watch it on Sunday. But this is definitely a MUST SEE from this past year of movies.
Let me know what you thought about Gone Girl! Do you think it got gipped at the Academy Awards??? I will be back on Tuesday with another post and I hope you will come back to check it out! Only nine more days until the Academy Awards!!
