Every red carpet event is the same thing, pause and take pictures, do interviews, be harshly judged. But I personally think that The Academy Awards red carpet is more daunting than most. It is definitely the most formal event so the standards for what celebrities wear are pretty high.
The guys have it WAY easier than the women, that's for sure! Apparently bowties are now the "in" thing! Here are my Top 5 best dressed guys:

Yes I know that Chris Pratt and Chris Evans are pretty much wearing the same thing but they both look very handsome.
I love that Benedict went with the white on white up top, I feel like it's such a British thing to wear more of a traditional suit.
J.K. Simmons is actually receiving a lot of hate for his wardrobe choice. And I don't understand why! I love that he is wearing a fedora and a pocket watch! It's very old fashioned. I think he looks great!
And of course Eddie Redmayne. My favorite trend this year, which you can see Eddie Redmayne took part in, is the dark blue suit. I think it looks so classy and it's nice to have something a bit different then the plain black suit. He was already a favorite of mine and the suit he chose to wear fits him perfectly!

Sometimes I think the hardest job at the Oscars is walking the red carpet. There is so much pressure to have the perfect dress, hair, make up and jewelry. There have been a couple of years when I really only have two maybe three favorites, but this year I had a lot of favorites! Here are my picks for best dressed:
Zoe Saldana looks amazing! Keep in mind that she had twins only three months ago! This was the perfect dress to show off her beautiful curves. It is such an elegant look but also very simple.
Jessica Chastain finally figured it out! The other two years she was at the Oscars I didn't like her dresses, one washed her out and the other swallowed her. But this year she looks amazing! I feel like this is the kind of dress that would have been wore by Audrey Hepburn. Its a timeless dress and definitely beautiful on her.
Rosamund Pike. She is my new woman crush. She also had a baby recently and I think she just looks amazing in this red number! It's such a simple dress but with a lot of texture to it and I think that is what makes it look so amazing. Also it has the perfect leg slit. It really annoys me when the slit goes all the up to you know where, like on Chrissy Tiegen's dress. Like my other top picks, this is another classic and very fitting for the Academy Awards.
Reese Witherspoon has a record for always dressing well on the red carpet. She never tries anything bizarre and she is also modestly dressed. This year is no different! I love the simplicity of her plain black and white dress. I think it's a very classic dress that it perfect for something as formal as the Oscars.
And now my favorite, Anna Kendrick. She was one of the first people on the red carpet and I think to start off with something this beautiful made it pretty hard for the ladies following her. It was a custom made gown so I'm sure that's a great feeling to know that nobody will have the same dress as you. Anna Kendrick always seems to have the perfect dresses for The Oscars. I LOVED her dress last year. And this year she did it again!
Honorable mentions go to Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchet, Faith Hill and Amy Adams Vanity Fair party dress.

When you pick your best dressed of course you also have to pick the worst dressed, so here are my picks. Let's start with the guys!
The crazy outfits are expected from Will.I.Am but at the Oscars? No. It's possible to make fashion statements in other ways than looking like Beetlejuice.
John Travolta...he just can't do anything right when it comes to the Oscars. From saying Idina Menzel's name wrong then to sneak kissing Scarlett Johanson (she was obviously shocked by it) on the red carpet, then to awkwardly not letting go (haha it's punny) of Idina Menzel's face and now this. What is up with the chain??? I kind of can't believe his wife would let him wear that out of the house. Also he is rocking that wig!
And Jared Leto, he is kind of also on my best dressed list too. I think that if anyone can pull of a lavender suit it's Jared Leto. The reason that I don't really like it though is that there is just too much going on around his face. I love the long hair but the long beard paired with the bowtie and also the hair falling around his neck is just too much for me. It looks claustrophobic. But besides that I do like this look! I think if he would have done a man bun it would have looked better.

And now for the ladies:
I know that Dakota Johnson made it on to a lot of best dressed lists but I totally disagree and here's why. First off, yes the dress it beautiful and I would like for it to be in my wardrobe but is it just me or does she look like she feels totally awkward??? I looks like the right side of the dress (without the strap) is too low and could slip lower if she has bad posture for one second. The top half of the dress looks like it fits well but then the rest of it just flows to nowhere. And the slit is at an awkward location so she isn't even really able to show off some leg. Now let talk about hair and make up. Or, more accurately, everyday make up and "I'm just throwing my hair in a ponytail"/"this isn't a fancy event, right?" look. First off, she could have at least done side bangs, or a nice braid to pull them back with a low messy bun. Just something to make it look like she was actually trying to dress up nice. And lastly, the MAIN reason why she is on the worst dressed list is for her attitude. Every interview I have seen with her, with or without her mom, on the Oscar red carpet she has a horrible, "I don't want to be here, talking with you" type of attitude. And when she did do interviews with her mom there she would just snap at her mom every time. It was really obnoxious. I don't care how amazing you look, if you have a horrible attitude and are giving off bad vibes, you go on the bad list.
Next is Lupita Nyong'o. I have to say I am really disappointed my her dress choice this year. Last year she looked STUNNING at the Academy Awards with her flowy baby blue dress. And this year it's just too much. I like the idea of the beads, especially from her waist down. But there are too many beads up near her neck and face. It's just like Jared Leto's suit, it would be stunning if there wasn't so much going on be her face. Plus it looks like a really heavy and uncomfortable dress.
And lastly is Keira Knightly. She is pregnant and she should show it off! Not cover it up with loose clothes! Did anybody see her on Ellen last week? This dress that she wore then was beautiful on her because you could see the baby bump! The dress that she wore to the Oscars however just washed her out and swallowed her up (like Jessica Chastain's other dresses). Plus the pattern is funky and it makes her look like a little girl, but recently that is typical for her. I just wish that she would have dressed the bump better.

I know that this post isn't very exciting for the guys that are reading this, sorry! But this is part of the Academy Awards and I had so much that I wanted to talk about with the fashion this year.
Let me know whose dress/suit you loved the most! Or hated the most! I'll be back on Friday with a post about my thoughts on the Oscar winners.
