You may or may not have noticed but the past week and a half to two weeks I have been slacking off on this blog. Whether it's a late post or not posting anything at all when I'm supposed to. I promise there is a good reason for all of it!
On March 23rd I got a new job! My dream job, in fact! I was hired, mid-semester, by the high school district in my area as an American Sign Language Interpreter. It all happened so fast that when it did happen life turned a little chaotic. For privacy reasons I'm not going to go into too much detail.
But since I started I have just loved it! I feel so lucky to have been hired so quickly and in the middle of the semester too!
Like I said, I am working in the high school district. The most common question I'm asked is "so are you with a whole class?" and the answer is no. I am actually one on one interpreting with a freshman student so I follow him to all his classes throughout the day.
Although I've never interpreted for a whole class before I think I would prefer to be with just one student. And that's not because it's easier! Trust me, it can still be a lot of work to be with only one student.
For my job I actually don't interpret in all of his classes. He is hard of hearing and has hearing aids so I mainly just interpret in the classes that are in bigger rooms or if the teacher is soft spoken. For the rest of the classes I sit and wait and listen to the lesson in case something wasn't clear for my student and then I will interpret it for him.

The best part about my job is that I am interpreting for a great student and I feel very lucky that my first full time interpreting gig is one I enjoy. My student is quite the comedian and very quick on his feet to crack a joke. It makes my job so much more enjoyable because it is easier for me to feel comfortable as his interprerter and (I hope) vise versa. And that is a very important aspect of being an American Sign Language Interpreter.
On a side note, since I mentioned that it's very important to be comfortable with your interprerter I would like to add that today during a presentation he totally fell asleep for about 10-15 minutes and when he woke up I signed to him "you know I can see you sleeping right?" and he just nodded his head and fell asleep again for about five more minutes. I just kept on interpreting the presentation incase he woke up! So I think it's safe to say he feels comfortable with me, either that or he just doesn't care about the presentation hahaha

So now that you know why I've been MIA lets talk about the blog. If you follow me on Twitter (@thrucaitseyes), you kind of have an idea of what's been going on. But, also on Twitter, I mentioned that the blog schedule will be changing - and that's true.
I love this blog. I've only been doing it for a few months and I don't get a ton of page views but that's not what's important to me. What's important to me is that I should do something because I love it and enjoy it so that's why my blog is going to continue.
The only thing that is going to change is that I will only be putting up posts on Wednesdays. I wish that I could do two posts a week and I would love to do that but, since I'm working the full time interpreting job and a part time job at my families business, it's just too much.
I do set certain standards for myself with each post I do and I don't want to do something half heartedly or rushed, upload it and then be unhappy with what I posted. I want to make sure that I'm happy with what I post and the quality of what I post.

So, with all of that being said, you can now expect a post every Wednesday! And that is a promise!
This blog is still fairly new and I'm still trying to figure everything out so THANK YOU for sticking around while I do that!
And remember - you can follow me on Twitter and/or Instagram, both @thrucaitseyes, for updates or just to see what I'm up to!
Thank you for stopping by today and I'll see you on Wednesday!
