The time has finally come! The Academy's ballots have been counted, the winners have been picked, and I am crossing my fingers hoping the people/movies I want to win will win. The Academy Awards will be starting this time tomorrow and I am so excited!!
There are so many categories this year that are a close race (I think it's more fun that way). I always have a hard time choosing which movies/people are going to take home the Oscar. So I am going to include who I think should win and who will win. Here we go!

Best Picture
Will Win: Birdman
Should Win: Whiplash
I am really torn about deciding between Birdman and Whiplash. But I think Birdman has a better chance of taking home the Oscar. If Whiplash actually did win I would feel bad for betraying it but also THRILLED that it won.

Best Director
Will Win: Richard Linklater (Boyhood)
Should Win: Alejandro Inarritu (Birdman)
If Linklater wins it makes sense, Boyhood was film over 12 years for that is quite the commitment to make for a movie. Inarritu also deserves it for Birdman though because that was a beautiful film - as long as Birdman wins Cinematography I will be happy.

Best Actor
Will Win: Eddie Redmayne
Should Win: Michael Keaton
I read somewhere this week that because Redmayne is portraying someone that is real and that most people are familiar with this will hand him the Oscar for his role in The Theory of Everything.

Will Win: Julianne Moore
Should Win: Julianne Moore
I only watched bits a pieces of Still Alice because it was too sad for me but I have her that her performance is outstanding. Also from the pieces I did see I would agree. I really wish Rosamund Pike had a better chance at winning but Gone Girl isn't getting enough Oscar press to be voted for unfortunately. Although, Marion Cotillard does have a chance at winning. I have been reading a lot about people just loving her performance. So maybe this category will surprise me!
Best Supporting Actor
Will Win: J.K. Simmons
Should Win: J.K. Simmons
When Shawn and I first saw Whiplash one thing that really bothered me was that the movie wasn't getting enough attention. So I thought that J.K. wouldn't even receive a nomination, but here we are. And considering that he won the Golden Globes I have a feeling he will also win the Oscar...and that makes me really happy! He absolutely deserves it!

Best Supporting Actor
Will Win: Patricia Arquette (Booooooo...)
Should Win: Emma Stone
Patricia Arquette...for those who know me you know that I am NOT a Meryl Streep fan. I've decided that Patricia Arquette is my new Meryl Streep. For those who have seen Boyhood can you please explain to me why she is nominated for her role??? There is nothing special about it. And if there is then I missed it (SPOILER ALERT - I didn't miss it). ALSO WHY IS MERYL NOMINATED FOR INTO THE WOODS?!?!?! I don't like her. If she wasn't even in a movie this year she still would have been nominated because the Academy loves her so much. I will never understand it.

Best Animated Film
Will Win: How To Train Your Dragon 2
Should Win: (The Lego Movie...oh wait!) How To Train Your Dragon 2
I keep forgetting the The Lego Movie wasn't nominated (that's sarcastic...I am mad at The Academy for not nominated The Lego Movie). But I was also torn between HTTYD2 and Big Hero 6 but Disney gets enough people rooting for them (including Shawn) so I am rooting for HTTYD2.

Achievement in Cinematography
Will Win: Birdman
Should Win: Birdman
This category and The Academy voters can be stupid. Example - when Avatar (a MOSTLY CGI movie) won. If Birdman loses I'm gonna be mad. The cinematography in this movie is amazing. No other movies are filmed like this one was, where the scenes flow into each other and it gives the illusion that the film never cuts. If it doesn't win I would expect The Grand Budapest Hotel to win.

Achievement in Costume Design
Will Win: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Should Win: The Grand Budapest Hotel
I only saw two and a half of the movies in this category (TGBH, Into the Woods, and half of Inherent Vice). So I'm just going to root for The Grand Budapest Hotel for this category.

Best Documentary Feature
Will Win: Citizenfour (Click here for the IMDb page)
Should Win: ???
I didn't watch any of the five films nominated for Documentary feature so I don't know which one should win. But there has been a lot of buzz surrounded Citizenfour so I picked that one, probably because it's about Edward Snowden.

Best Documentary Short Subject
Will Win: Joanna (Click here for the IMDb page)
Should Win: ???
Again I didn't watch any of these short films but the most talked about short film is Joanna.

Achievement in Film Editing
Will Win: Boyhood
Should Win: (Birdman...oh wait!) Boyhood or The Grand Budapest
Yet another category where an obvious movie wasn't nominated. Birdman wouldn't work is it wasn't for the editing!! That's what puts the movie together and makes all the scenes flow! Oh well. I have a feeling that the winner will be Boyhood because, incase you didn't already hear, it was filmed over 12 years. I'm getting more and more bitter about Boyhood.

Best Foreign Language Film
Will Win: Ida
Might Win: Leviathan
Again the only movie that I have seen in this category is the first 10 minutes of Wild Tales, which I actually really enjoyed! So I am just basing this off of what I have heard/read.

Achievement in MakeUp and Hairstyling
Will Win: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Should Win: The Grand Budapest Hotel
The only reason that Foxcatcher is nominated is for Steve Carell. I would understand if Gardians of the Galaxy won though. But of course I'm rooting for TGBH

Achievement in Music - Original Score
Will Win: The Theory of Everything
Should Win: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Snubbed: Gone Girl
The Theory of Everything took home the Golden Globe so I really wouldn't be surprised if it took the Oscar as well. The score in TGBH was great so I am still hoping it wins. But guess who got snubbed?! Gone Girl. I talked about this in my post about Gone Girl (click here to read that post) but the score in this movie makes the movie even more great! So it definitely got snubbed.

Achievement in Music - Original Song
Will Win: I'm Not Gonna Miss You- Glen Campbell...I'll Be Me
Might Win: Glory- Selma
Glory won the Golden Globe but I want to switch things up and root for the Glen Campbell song. I cried watching the music video. It's such a beautiful but sad song.

Achievement in Production Design
Will Win: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Should Win: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Just to get a glimpse of why TGBH should win watch this. I'm sure the other movies in this category have great production designs as well but TGBH takes the cake (haha thats punny...if you've seen the movie) as far as I'm concerned.

Best Animated Short Film
Will Win: The Dam Keeper (Click here to watch the trailer)
Might Win: Feast (Click here for the trailer)
Shawn and I did actually watch all of the short films nominated in this category! So I do know what I'm talking about here! Considering that Feast is a Disney short it will probably win but I'm voting for The Dam Keeper because I think that was a better animated short. The Dam Keeper is also more of the traditional style drawings and I liked that aspect of the short film. I did also enjoy the short film A Single Life, it definitely had me laughing.

Best Live Action Short Film
Will Win: The Phone Call
Should Win: Parvaneh
Again Shawn and I actually did watch all five of these films. I LOVED Boogaloo and Graham but I'm voting for Parvaneh. I picked Parvaneh because it is about a modern topic of a young Afgan immigrant trying to survive on her own, face judgements for her heritage (she starts off wearing a hijab but removes it half way through the film), and also help her family in any way she is able to. The Phone Call is getting the most hype though. And I have to say it was one of the more tough movies to watch. It is about a woman working at a crisis hotline center and receives a call from a man who doesn't want to be alone while committing suicide. It was a really tough movie to watch but I wouldn't be surprised if it won the Oscar.

Achievement in Sound Mixing Will Win: American Sniper Should Win: Birdman | Achievement in Soud Editing Will Win: American Sniper Should Win: Whiplash |
Every predictions post I have read says that Sniper is going to win both of these categories. It is a war movie so it makes sense at least. But this better be the only award American Sniper wins. I wish Whiplash had a shot at winning for Sound Editing though!
Achievement in Visual Effects
Will Win: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Might Win: Interstellar
I'm voting for Interstellar here. The visual effects in that movie were pretty cool, sometimes nauseating, but for the most part they were great. I've heard/read that Apes probably has more of a shot at winning though.

Adapted Screenplay
Will Win: Whiplash
Might Win: The Imitation Game
If you haven't read my post about Whiplash yet you can read it here. I talk about how silly it is that Whiplash is nominated for Adapeted Screenplay, it should be nominated for Original Screenplay. But from what it sounds like there is a very strong chance that it will win the Oscar!

Original Screenplay
Will Win: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Might Win: Birdman
The Academy is apparently trying to play some kind of backwards game this year. Shawn just informed me that TGBH was actually based off of two books. So really Whiplash should have been nominated for Original Screenplay and TGBH should have been nominated for Adapted Screenplay. It's all mixed up. But I hope TGBH wins in this category too.
Actually the only screenplays in this category that are actually original are Birdman and Nightcrawler. I'm convinced Boyhood is loosely based off Patricia Arquette's life, Foxcatcher is a true story, and TGBH is two books. The Acdademy is obviously confused.
